 Dr. Gráinne Kirwan lectures in Psychology at the Department of Technology and Psychology in IADT. Her talk is entitled ‘Virtual Reality in Psychological Research and Therapy’. “Virtual Reality has, for many years, been extensively utilised within the psychological research and therapeutic community. Many studies have identified the potential of the technology for aiding in therapeutic interventions for phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and addictions, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia. The potential of the technology in distraction from pain has also been investigated. Virtual Reality has also been used by psychological researchers to conduct experiments in perception, social interaction, and other topics.
